Myanmar supplies around seventy per cent of the world's high-quality jadeite. Chinese sources note Burmese stone from the tenth century; the Qianlong Emperor went to war for green jade; King Mindon let Chinese lapidaries set up in Mandalay, and the market there still grinds, polishes and inspects it by UV torch. Hpakant's landslides killed more than a hundred in 2015 and more than 170 in 2020. The Myanma Gems Enterprise grades imperial, commercial and utility jade, the last for carving. The pendant on a cord carries all of that.
