Gold, silver or diamond needles a bomoh sets under the skin — chin and cheeks most often — for beauty, allure, presence or invulnerability. Invisible except on a radiograph. Islam rules it haram; the wearer keeps food taboos and holds that the needles must come out before death.

The wearer is told to keep it secret and to keep pantangan — no certain bananas, no papaya, no satay skewers, no passing under a clothesline; break them and the susuk weakens or turns harmful. Tradition says a person still carrying susuk dies hard, and that once removed the face returns to its real age within six months, so removal is for the same practitioner who set it. Medicine knows susuk from incidental X-rays, the first reported in 1928. Malay Wikipedia's example is a named celebrity with gold needles and diamonds in her chin.

Class null: nothing in the vault covers an implant — it is not kept, it is worn inside. What the wearer owes is the taboos and a correct removal; that is the whole of the upkeep, and the whole of why the tradition says who set it matters.
