A child's modesty plate worn on a waist cord — brass, silver, nak, gold or coconut shell; heart or leaf for girls, shield for boys. The Stockholm museum that bought a set in Bangkok in 1887 catalogued them as amulets, and the Thai article notes the Tamil cousin is a talisman against spirits.

The Swedish frigate Vanadis called at Bangkok in 1885 and the Museum of Ethnography catalogued the purchases in 1887: among them a run of brass cha ping, larger and smaller, hearts for girls and shields for boys, each labelled 'ornament (amulet)'. They are the only museum-quality free photographs of a Thai child's protection we have found.
