The temple's story makes Ai Khai a boy of nine or ten who followed Luang Pu Thuat from Songkhla toward Ayutthaya, was left to guard Wat Chedi, vowed to stay, and went into the temple pond to remain as its guardian; villagers asked him to find lost cattle. A soft thonglang-wood carving by a headman named Thiang, made before 1982, rotted; a takhian-wood figure carved in 1981–82 fixed the pose, right fist to the chest. The abbot issued the first amulet run in 1983. Firecrackers by the truckload and moulded cocks filling the grounds are the vows being paid; the 2020s wave carried copies to temples across the country.
