Any woman whose... head is thui (sloping/tapered at the back)

or, as it is commonly called, a protruding forehead. If the protrusion in front and the protrusion behind answer to each other on both sides, that is all the better. It is a sign showing that she is a person of mindfulness and intelligence, clever and quick-witted. Even if it does not protrude on both sides — if it protrudes only at the back alone, that is still good enough.

Any woman whose... head is shaped like an elephant's head

or is ridged in undulations like a palmyra fruit It is a sign showing that she will have prosperity and flourishing in the future; she is a person of wasana (merit-destiny), and will become great and eminent in days to come.

Any woman whose... head is pom (short and rounded/stout)

It is a sign of a person given to rambling reverie, who likes to dream along with her moods, who cannot be taken seriously in anything; she is a chatterer, a braggart, and given to showing off. But if she makes her living in the way of trade, she has enough of a path to prosper by.

It is a sign of a person who has wiles and tricks for taking advantage of her friends. She will be able to keep herself alive, but not in prosperity; at best only at a middling level, or sometimes up and down, not to be counted upon for certain.

It is a sign of a person whose wits are not quick enough for others, slow — but who has honesty and loyal devotion toward those who have been good to her. If the head is long but large, she will prosper and flourish in the future. If it is long and small as well, there will be only days of hardship; she will not make a living as well as other people do.

It is a sign of a person of quick wits, clever, sharp, who sees through her friends — but who will find it very hard to help herself rise to prosperity. She is one who loves fun, jesting, boisterous, cheerful, and broad-hearted; she is liked and cared for by friends and companions, and is desired by the men who come to associate with her.

Any woman whose... head is triangular in shape

It is a sign of a person who is diligent and vigorous, persevering and enduring at every kind of work. Whether life turns out good or bad lies with herself, in the manner of the saying that one is one's own refuge. To hope to borrow another person's nose to breathe with will come to nothing.

It is a sign of a clever person, whose wits are as quick as other people's; she is her own counsellor in the conduct of her life — that is, if she chooses the right road, the future will meet with nothing but happiness and prosperity, but if she chooses the wrong road she will fall into hardship and misery. It is a sign of a person who is honest and upright; her circumstances in life will be of a middling degree.

or, as it is commonly called, a high "palace-peak" (chom prasat sung) It is a sign of a person full of ideas, clever and steadfast; she is a person of merit and wasana (destiny), and will have prosperity in the future.

Any woman whose... head juts out at the back of the skull like a hook

It is a sign of a restless person, who likes to romp about after her own nature. In the matter of occupation, she is usually fond of the various crafts, such as sewing, embroidery and needlework, or other handiwork.

Any woman whose... head has a bulging lump of flesh at the back

It is a sign of a person of boisterous nature, fond of children, and fond of play; she likes to do outlandish things, always eccentric and unlike others; she is a person who does not fret about the future, living along from one day to the next, in the way people call "whatever will do".

Any woman whose... sides of the head have bulging flesh

It is a sign of a person who tends to be in trouble in matters of money constantly. Even if she has a place to dwell, it will not be hers by right, or she will not have full right in that place.

Any woman whose... head is large

It is a sign showing that she is a person lofty in thought and in mindful intelligence, knowing as much as other people. She herself will rise high and prosper and flourish, because of her subtle thinking, having reasons of her own; she is a person who can help herself, in the matter of money or of livelihood, and even love will proceed for her in a reasoned way.

It is a sign of a person of little mindful intelligence, lacking cleverness, usually always at a disadvantage, whether in the matter of work, of money, or of love. She is usually a person who believes others easily, and will have to meet with hardship because of believing people.

It is a sign of a person straitened in her thinking, in trouble over making a living. For the most part her life is beset with hardship, straitened in the matter of money and of dwelling; she looks upon the future as darkness, until at times she loses heart, without any spirit left to undertake any enterprise at all. Any woman... whose hair is burnt-brown in colour, and is oiled and lustrous

— this is a sign that she is long-lived, and strict in matters of custom and tradition; easy to instruct, easy to teach.

Any woman... whose hair is burnt-brown in colour

but is not oiled and not lustrous — this is a sign of a person who is long-lived, of full and strong body, bold of speech in matters that have reason, ardent in love, and excessive in sexual passion; not inclined toward study and the seeking of knowledge, ruthless of heart, lacking in loving-kindness and compassion.

Any woman... who has a pointed tuft of hair at the front

or what is commonly called a "turtle's tail" — this is a sign of a person whose father will die before her mother, or else that the two will be parted from each other.

Any woman... whose hair is fine and thin

— this is a sign of a person without moral virtue, lacking in mercy and kindness; whomever she associates with, she thinks only of taking advantage of them. Even with hair of this same character, if it is frizzy and fuzzy (frizzy by nature) it is worse still than that: such a person absolutely cannot be associated with.

Any woman... whose hair is black and oily, and frizzy and unruly

(frizzy and unruly by nature) — this is a sign of a person hot-tempered, cunning in her cleverness, lacking in fairness, and violent in sexual passion; a self-seeking person who takes advantage of people in general.

and has straight strands standing bristly, soft and fine — this is a sign of a person with a compassionate heart, fair, honest and loyal, who does not do harm to anyone first; she will be steadfast to her husband, constant from beginning to end.

Any woman... whose hair is brown in colour, both coarse and stiff

— this is a sign of a person who is hard to raise, having little uprightness, given to acting rashly in wrongful ways. Even with hair of this same character, if it is frizzy (frizzy from birth) she will be a person who is weak, devoid of quick wit.

Any woman... whose hair is coarse, straight and stiff

— this is a sign of a person excessive in sexual passion, lacking in mindfulness and in any thought of caring for her own good name. However much property she has, she spends it without restraint, without a thought for the days ahead; her future will meet with nothing but hardship and trouble.

Any woman... whose hair is fine and soft, brown in colour, both abundant and thick

— this is a sign of a person generous of heart but often hot-tempered, like a child without judgement, impolite in manner; she will attain happiness by relying on the strength of others.

Any woman... whose hair is red, thick and lustrous

— this is a sign of a person of intelligence, sharp and keen-witted, endowed with moral virtue; but in whatever she undertakes she tends to aim at her own benefit beyond what is proper. Even with hair of this same character, if it is frizzy and unruly (frizzy and unruly by nature) the result will be the very opposite: keeping company with her is absolutely forbidden.

Any woman... whose hairline stands very far from the ears

— this is a sign of a person carrying the fruit of past deeds committed in a former age; her life will meet with misfortune and with hardship and bitter difficulty. Characteristics of the Shape of the Face

Any woman... whose face is shaped like the face of the sky

— this is a sign that she is a person of gentle disposition, loving peace, fond of dressing showily, and fond of associating with people without choosing by rank; yet she has a compassionate spirit and does not like to take unfair advantage, does not envy those better off than herself; she is generally beloved by those who meet her. Even if she falls into hardship there will be people to support her. In matters of sexual passion things proceed in a plain and even way, without extravagance.

Any woman... whose face is shaped like the face of a monkey

— this is a sign that she is a person of coarse disposition, fond of doing odd and freakish things contrary to ordinary human beings, fierce of heart, without mercy, her manners not within the standards of well-bred people. A woman of this character, if she takes a husband, tends to bring shame and loss of face upon her husband repeatedly, because of her disposition to conduct herself unlike everyone else, and she has a promiscuous sexual passion, in which no constancy can be found.

Any woman... whose face resembles a pig's face

It is a sign showing that she is a person of wavering disposition; whatever she undertakes she does not think through carefully, and only once the mistake has been made does she come to regret it. Her character appears to be that of a person of guile and cunning stratagems with her friends and companions; she is fond of showing off and of talking herself up while putting others down. Whatever she undertakes seldom succeeds.

Any woman... whose face resembles a bear's face

It is a sign showing that she is clever and well-informed, but at times cruel-hearted; once angered at someone she binds herself in vengefulness. She respects her own opinions and does not readily listen to anyone's advice or admonition. Whatever she undertakes she usually aims to carry through to success; if it does not succeed she does not abandon her intention.

Any woman... whose face resembles a gibbon's face

It is a sign showing that she is a person who loves justice and loves peace. Her nature is quiet and demure, to the point that she looks like a person given to sorrow. She likes to think and to dream far off. She has honesty and dislikes taking advantage of others. Her sustaining of life is uncertain — one moment having, one moment poor. But if any man gets her as a wife, she will be steadfast, loyal and devoted to her husband forever.

Any woman... whose face resembles a goat's face

It is a sign showing that she is clever, of high intelligence and mindfulness, and loves peace. Her future holds nothing but a path of prosperity, and she will attain the good by her own self. It is a sign showing that she is resolute and brave of heart, acting by her own decision; even if the matter is fraught with danger she does not flinch — she will even give her own life in exchange.

This means the skin of the face, the eyebrows, the ears, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, and even the hair are thin. It is a sign showing that she is a person who loves peace, is modest and unassuming, does not like a life of high aspiration or of exuberant, craving ambition, and is frugal and meticulous in keeping and safeguarding property. or, called by another name, a face tilted back It is a sign showing that she is a person circumspect in her own affairs. Whatever she undertakes she usually applies thought and deliberation first; only when she sees that it is good does she set to work, diligent and vigorous, persevering and enduring, with cleverness habitual in her character. The future ahead holds nothing but smoothness. If she obtains a husband, the husband will love her as his own heart.

Any woman... with a downturned face

It is a sign showing that she is a person who does not go in for friends and company; she likes to live alone in contented solitude. She does things simply, without ceremony or fuss; she is not high-aspiring nor extravagant, and is not a spendthrift. When she is to decide upon undertaking anything, even in matters of love, she usually consults the elders whom she respects. It is a sign showing that she is a person who holds her own reasoning supreme, likes to behave in a childish way, does things without deliberating carefully, following only her own whim. It is a sign showing that she is a person who does not like to take advantage of others, and does not like people who are grasping over small and petty things. She is generous and open-handed toward those in hardship; she is a person of moral virtue. She will be merry at times, but she has composure and gentleness constantly. If she has a husband, she will be beloved of her husband and esteemed by people generally.

Any woman... with a flat face

It is a sign showing that she is a person of quick-witted, clever thought, cool-headed and steady, but who usually does not deliberate carefully before acting. Only once she has done wrong does she realise it afterwards — falling into the saying that runs, "the ox is lost, and only then is the pen fenced in." But she is a person with charm about her, rather flirtatious, and easy in making acquaintances. In the latter part of life she must feed herself by her own shanks.

It is a sign showing that she is a person with an envious heart, bold of mouth, who likes to do things in a boastful way with ทิษฐิ [thitthi — conceited stubbornness of opinion; so spelled on the page, for ทิฐิ]. She holds herself supreme, takes advantage of other people, but will not let go of what is her own. She is a person whose friendships do not last: at first all is well, but once others come to know her character, they break off with her.

or, as it is called, having constant cheerfulness It is a sign showing that she is a person of bright spirits; her future will be complete and fruitful in wealth, and she will be beloved of her husband. But if she has a dimple in the cheek, she is usually one who causes her husband vexation of mind on account of her own flirtatiousness, her disposition being unsteady, and she gets acquainted with people easily. Her way of life in the future, at the best, is only enough to get by; riches she will not find.

Any woman whose... face is broken-lined

Or as it is called, a scowling face, or a sullen face It is a sign showing that she is an ill-fated person; her life will meet with nothing but hardship and bitterness. No one will take kindly interest in her, and she is usually disappointed in matters of love. Her mind is not cheerful and bright; there is only grief and sorrow. It [printed มัน, "it"; likely for มัก, "usually"] is estranged from friends, and from her beloved man as well, because of the ill-fatedness of her own face.

Any woman who... has an oval-shaped face

It is a sign showing that she is a person of cool temper, with a heart of compassion toward people in general, having deep and prudent thought, and Dhamma constant in her heart. She is a person whose future will hold nothing but smooth happiness; she will be beloved of her husband, and will be praised and extolled by people in general. Any man who takes her to wife may count it very good indeed.

Characteristics of the Forehead

Any woman who... on the forehead

has a written mark in the shape of a lotus petal, above and between the two eyebrows It is a sign showing that she is a person who has happiness all her life long, with much property, and knows no poverty. If she gets a husband she will be beloved of her husband, and will help her husband to be ever more abundant in wealth and goods.

Any woman who... has brow-bones so prominent as to reach the middle of the forehead

It is a sign showing that she is a person of merit-destiny; her life will meet with prosperity and advancement; she will become a lady of rank. If she gets a husband, the husband will be a man of power and destiny, respected and held in awe, with retainers in his service in overflowing numbers.

Any woman who... on the forehead has a written mark in the shape of a trisula-circle

that is, having it between the two eyebrows like a deity This is the mark of a person born to be a master of others. If she gets a husband, the husband will become great and high, surrounded by slaves and retainers, and she will be complete in wealth and goods; a day of falling into want cannot be found at all.

Any woman whose... forehead is thin

Or as it is called, a bald forehead; and if the eyebrows are thin as well, or there is a mole in the "eye-star" too, she will be an ill-fated person; if she gets a husband she is bested by the husband, or as it is simply called, a woman defeated by her husband.

Any woman whose... forehead slopes

It is a sign showing that she is a person half foolish, half haughty and arrogant in disposition; a person ungrateful to others, fond of exalting herself and putting others down, aspiring high, standing on rank and dignity without regard to her own station and circumstances. If she gets a husband she will betray her husband. No one desires to associate with her, because she is given to conducting herself only in base and vile ways.

Any woman whose... forehead bulges out

It is a sign showing that she is a person of merit-destiny, with prudent thought, of a generous and open-handed disposition, clever and circumspect; whatever she undertakes she usually does with genuine resolve, not flinching from weariness and hardship. Such a woman will be beloved of her husband, and will be held in regard and esteem by people in general.

Any woman whose... forehead is bald and broad

and whose eyebrows also have the character of elephant's brows, and there is a mole at the eye or in the row beneath the chin It is a sign showing that she is a woman who knows how to wait upon and serve her husband, a good mistress of the house; but she usually finds it hard to raise children.

Any woman whose... forehead is narrow and short

It is a sign showing that she is a person full of opinionated stubbornness (ทิษฐิ), persevering, but lacking in wisdom. Her heart is good, she is polite and gentle; when she has spoken or undertaken anything, she usually carries it through to completion no matter what, and however anyone may object she will not listen.

Any woman whose... forehead is wrinkled and short

It is a sign showing that she is a person much given to thinking and pondering, circumspect in whatever she undertakes, aiming only at things of the greatest benefit; she often dreams of things quietly and far off.

It is a sign showing that she is a person who aspires after knowledge, loves the various branches of learning; a person of cool temper, polite and gentle, sweet in speech, with circumspect and prudent thought; she likes to associate with people of the same class as herself. If she gets a husband, she will be the utmost love and utmost worship of her husband; her future will hold nothing but smoothness, and prosperity and flourishing.

It is a sign showing that she is a person ill-fated in destiny, with little cleverness, and often believes people easily. She is usually loved, and praised and extolled by people in general; her future in the days ahead will be prosperous and flourishing. If she gets a husband, the husband will be a lord and master of others, respected by people and held in regard and esteem; the husband will love her as his very heart.

Characteristics of the Ears

Any woman who... has ears like a cow's ears

It is a sign showing that she is an ill-fated person; her life holds nothing but bitter want, grief and hardship almost to the point of blood spurting from the eyes. She cannot find happiness even for the space of a single meal, and she will have no property, money or gold; it is a life of utter, wretched poverty. If she gets a husband she must be the underling of her husband; comfort she cannot hope for at all.

Any woman whose... two ears are even with each other

neither higher nor lower than the other, and not too large, not too small, in proportion with the shape of the face, and those ears are red, the ear-canal wide, and deep It is a sign showing that she is a person of merit and destiny; she will become a lady of rank. If she gets a husband, the husband will have power and destiny, will be a great and high personage, abounding in wealth and goods and in slaves and retainers; wherever she goes there are people who praise and extol her; she is free of trouble and long-lived.

Any woman whose... ears look well-proportioned in keeping with the face

and are white, fine and softer in tone than the face It is a sign showing that she is a person of merit and destiny, abounding in wealth and goods, slaves and retainers. If she gets a husband, she will help her husband to become great, with people praising him and holding him in awe throughout the whole land.

Any woman whose... ears are thin, and the ear-canal within is unusually small

It is a sign showing that she is an ill-fated person, unable to find wealth; she will be in hardship until death, and is short-lived.

Any woman whose... ears are แหลง [as printed; for แหลม, "pointed"] both below and above

and there is bone at the rim around the ear higher than in ordinary people It is a sign showing that she is cruel-hearted like a savage beast, devoid of compassion and pity, always waiting to devour blood and flesh. A woman of this character — whatever man takes her will come to ruin; whatever property, money and gold he has will be laid waste.

Any woman whose... ears, in ordinary times, are quite normal

that is, not dark and not dry — but if all at once the ears turn dark, and dry, It is a sign showing that she will die within this year.

Any woman whose... ears are like a rat's ears

It is a sign showing that she is a person devoid of destiny, and short-lived.

Any woman whose... ears are lower than the level of the eyes

and those ears are small and pointed, or thin, or the ears are dark, or dry — It is a sign showing that she is an ill-fated person; she will be in destitution and misery, or else she is a short-lived person.

Any woman whose... ears have the shape of elephant's ears

It is a sign showing that she is a person of lofty thought, with quick cleverness, shrewd in dealing with people, and fond of seeking out knowledge for herself. If she enters government service she will advance, and be beloved of her superiors. If she gets a husband she will be beloved of her husband.

Any woman whose... inner ear is turned outward, or the outer part likewise, or the ear is crooked

It is a sign showing that she is a person of coarse disposition, obstinate, hard to admonish and hard to teach, cruel of heart. If she gets a husband, she will be one who makes her husband heavy-hearted and troubled in mind continually.

It is a sign showing that she is a merit-loving person, with a heart of loving-kindness, and with moral virtue constant in her heart; she does not like taking advantage of her fellow human beings, and likes to help those fallen into want. If she gets a husband, she will be beloved of her husband.

Any woman whose... ears are higher than the eyebrows

It is a sign showing that she is a long-lived person, merit-loving and giving of alms (ศุลทาน, as printed), possessed of loving-kindness, and one having moral virtue constant in her heart [ประจำใด as printed, for ประจำใจ]. She does not take advantage of people and does not envy anyone. Her life will hold nothing but coolness and happiness; she will have some suffering, but only a small part, now and again on occasion; for the most part there is usually only happiness and comfort — but she does not have very much wealth.

Any woman whose... ears are smooth, thin, looking fine, soft and delicate

It is a sign showing that she is a person with a heart of compassion, generous and open-handed toward people in general, and is usually soft-hearted, easily moved to pity.

Any woman whose... ears are round, and large

It is a sign showing that she is a person of perseverance, enduring at every kind of work, however wearisome, toilsome and hard it may be. But she rather tends to be a person who believes in her own ideas somewhat, and often will not consent to heed the opinions of others. Her future will rise only to the middling level, not good enough to reach the topmost rank; but if the beginning is not good, there is every prospect of its turning worse.

Any woman whose... ears are coarse, or as it is called, thick ears

It is a sign showing that she is a person of a disposition that yields to no one, bold of tongue, hard of heart, with perseverance at work of every kind, and fond of ingratiating herself with people by her work; she does not like to ingratiate herself with flattering words. But she inclines to be a person full of opinionated stubbornness (ทิษฐิ), fond of getting the better of people; she speaks truly and acts truly. Her future has prospect of brilliance, but it must come gradually, little by little. A person of this character — if the husband knows her disposition, he will love her and they will live together ยืดกับ [as printed] and moreover will prosper and flourish; but if the husband does not understand her heart, or is a person who has only his own way, then they will not live together to the end and reach the shore safely.

Any woman whose... ears are soft

It is a sign showing that she is a person who knows her own measure, is modest, easy to admonish and easy to teach, knows what is fitting and what is not; she has a polite, gentle disposition and loves honesty and uprightness. If she gets a husband, she will be one who knows the duties of being mistress of the house, and the husband will love her and feel tenderness for her, because of her being modest in heart and modest in bearing, knowing how to give and take, and being tractable and easily taught.

Any woman whose... ears are hard

It is a sign [printed เป็นเครื่องแสดงว่า, omitting หมาย] showing that she is a person of stubborn perseverance, who does everything her own way, full of opinionated stubbornness (ทิฐิ), but often goes wrong in the work she produces, because she trusts herself too much. As for the future: if the beginning is good it is good; if the beginning is bad it is bad.

Or what is called wide eyes, as though fleeing a danger she feared had come. Or what is commonly called crocodile eyes, that is, the outer corners of the eyes point upward. With whomever she associates, she is forever on the watch only to exploit and take advantage. It is a sign showing that she is a flirtatious person, liking to keep company with several friends of the opposite sex at one and the same time, and fond of beauty and luxury; but full of pique and sweet-mouthed, thin-skinned, quick to anger and quick to get over it. Normally she is of a bright temper, amusing to talk with, reasonable in conversation, likes to make herself known at social functions, and likes to conduct herself as an extravagant person.

It is a sign showing that she is a person of a hundred tongues, full of guile and trickery, stingy and niggling, looking only to her own gain; and she usually conducts herself as a dissolute person. It is a sign showing that she is a person of perseverance, diligent and vigorous, in earnest about every piece of work she does. But she is a tight-fisted person, unwilling to spend on anything she sees as not really necessary.

It is a sign showing that she is a stingy, close-reckoning person, who hoards and lays by; she does not like extravagance, does not like dressing showily, and does not like going into society. She usually likes to stay alone quietly, but she has outstanding tenacity.

It is a sign showing that she is a clever person, quick-witted, usually content in quietness, of a disposition fond of thinking and fond of dreaming, suited to being a writer; but she does not like to be involved in matters of men.

It is a sign showing that she is a person sweet in the mouth and sour behind; her speech does not agree with her heart. She is usually grasping at the benefit of others in a cunning, crooked way, and has no gratitude toward those who have shown her kindness; her nature is base and vile.

that is, the lips curl upward It is a sign showing that she is a very sulky person, easily hurt, of fierce temper but quick to get over it; she does not think of holding a grudge against anyone. If someone is good to her her heart quite melts, if someone is bad to her she flares up like fire. She is a person who knows the words defeat and victory, who knows gain and knows loss. If her lover or her husband coaxes her and pleases her in the right way, she becomes soft, pliant and lovable, like beeswax held over a flame, which one may take and mould into any shape one likes to play with. It is a sign showing that she is a person of few words, but when the moment of anger comes she is fierce; she speaks without deference to anyone. But this refers to speaking well; should she speak ill, then that very mouth of hers will be the sharp weapon, the mouth that divides her own self.

that is, the lower lip is longer than the upper lip It is a sign showing that she is a person not clever in speech, poor in destiny; she loves quiet and is modest in heart and modest in self. Whatever she thinks of doing usually does not succeed, and she has discouragement in the business she means to undertake; so she becomes a person wearied of the conduct of life, because whatever she thinks of does not come as she hopes.
