It is the esoteric core this archive exists to document, and a research-priority genre.

But read the titles in this collection before assuming "magic" means sorcery. The catalogue's raw line for almost every one of these is Custom / Ritual, and the titles bear that out: Ongkalakkhana (the consecration of a kathin robe), Kham thwai khao (verses for offering rice), Sut thon (protective recitation), Kham wai that (veneration of a relic), Uppatet suep cata (rite for extending a life). This is overwhelmingly the benedictory and consecratory end of saiyasat — the ritual custom that frames merit-making and monastic life — rather than the aggressive charm-craft the word "magic" conjures. The two ends share a technology; the collection happens to hold mostly the communal, liturgical half.

The shape of the collection

Where Astrology is a Phayao-Lampang tradition, ritual is emphatically a Nan one: Nan holds far more of this genre than any other muang, with Phayao, Lampang and Phrae following. The deepest single holdings sit at Wat Si Mongkhon (Kong) and Wat Pa Mueat. As with all the learned genres it is written in Tham Lanna, in the Pali-and-Lan Na register.

Its physical support splits more evenly than astrology's. Folding paper still leads, but palm-leaf runs it close — consistent with a genre whose consecration and offering texts were copied into the same durable canonical format as the liturgy they accompany, rather than kept only as loose working almanacs.

Handling this material

This archive treats esoteric material descriptively, not as a manual. These articles and the catalogue record the existence, provenance and shape of a rite — they do not reproduce activation instructions, and some material a lineage would consider khong khru (restricted teacher-knowledge) is described only at the level a public finding-aid needs. Takedown and correction requests go to 530kings@proton.me.

Notes

The bucket is coarse. Nearly everything arrived under a single raw label, Custom / Ritual, so genuine distinctions — consecration vs. offering vs. protective vs. life-extension — are collapsed here. Splitting this into sub-genres is the obvious next taxonomy pass once more titles are read.

Ritual and horā frequently share a volume; expect overlap with the astrology corpus and check the raw metadata when a title names both.

"}, "dbPresent": true, "connections": [{"rel": "includes", "key": "entity:yantra", "label": "Yantra / Yan (nyan)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "includes", "key": "entity:katha", "label": "Katha (Pali spell-formulae)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "includes", "key": "entity:suep_cata", "label": "Suep Cata (life-extension rite)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "includes", "key": "entity:sut_thon", "label": "Thon (protective / funerary rite)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "includes", "key": "entity:su_khwan", "label": "Su Khwan (soul-calling)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "genre:astrology", "label": "Astrology · โหราศาสตร์", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "genre:grammar_lexicography", "label": "Grammar & Lexicography · ไวยากรณ์", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "genre:liturgy_chanting", "label": "Liturgy & Chanting · บทสวด", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "genre:other", "label": "Other · อื่น ๆ", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "entity:lersi", "label": "Lersi / Ruesi (ascetic-seers)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "entity:naga", "label": "Naga (sacred serpent)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}, {"rel": "related to", "key": "entity:holasat", "label": "Horā almanac (Holasat)", "authored": true, "weight": null, "dir": "in"}], "image": {"src": "/pimg/6968/52.png", "kind": "page", "mid": 6968, "page": 52, "starred": false, "caption": "Diagram — A printed section-divider (not a hand-drawn diagram): a near-blank leaf carrying one line of modern Thai type centred on it — ยันต์หนีบ เข้าแท่งเมตตาม"}}
